“[...] ECSTASY explores the state of “being beside oneself” in its art-historical dimension and the associated realm of cultural history, and in the process focuses on a number of central areas.

At the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the exhibition is divided into nine thematic spaces. These explore typical approaches to forms of ecstasy in various cultures. 

The presentation is based on the theory that the desire for consciousness-expanding experiences amounts to an elementary human aspiration, and hence a phenomenon of global society. From time immemorial, people have deliberately transgressed physical and mental boundaries for the purpose of reaching other realms of perception.”
